 The Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association - LIKTA

The Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association - LIKTA - is a professional association, founded in 1998, that regroups over 85 important ICTE product and service providers and educational institutions, as well as about 130 individual professional members of the ICTE industry sector in Latvia, namely in computer hardware and software, electronics, and telecommunications infrastructure and service providers.
LIKTA is a non-governmental, democratic organisation, respecting and balancing the rights of its corporate members and its individual members. All decisions are consensus based.
Latvia wholly endorses the objectives of e-Europe and intends to become a full partner of the knowledge based global economy. It has elaborated its own e-Latvia strategy as well as an e-government model. Crucial prerequisites for this mission are a knowledgeable, ICT literate population and a well developed ICTE industry. Latvia has the advantage of having a fully literate population and a tradition of excellence in mathematics, science and engineering.

Prime Ministers, experts, researchers and entrepreneurs of Nordic and Baltic countries and Great Britain gather in Rīga - in the Northern Future Forum, to discuss bridging of the digital divide
On February 28, 2013 in Rīga will be held the Northern Future Forum gathering Prime Ministers, experts, researchers and entrepreneurs of Nordic and Baltic countries and Great Britain to discuss the current developments of the region - competitiveness of green economy and bridging the digital divide. LIKTA is partner of forum topic - bridging the digital divide.

Seminar Going Local Digital Agenda event in Latvia 2012
12 September 2012, Rīga, Latvia

To follow-up the Europe 2020 Flagship Initiative on the "Digital Agenda for Europe", there was organised a "going local" event on 12 September 2012 in Riga, Latvia by Latvian Information and Communications Technology Association (LIKTA), Latvian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) in close collaboration with TEN Section of the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC). This event followed the previous event organised in Dublin, Ireland on 9 November 2011.
The objective of this event was to focus national attention on the Digital Agenda and its importance for economic growth, job creation and social inclusion. Target audience of the event were high level government officials, industry leaders and digital agenda stakeholders, NGOs and information society opinion leaders.

LIKTA ICT CHARTER
In 2012 LIKTA has developed a charter of ICT priorities, that points out six key directions, guiding ICT industry development in Latvia for the next five years. It includes promotion of understanding among entrepreneurs of the effectiveness of ICT as a business tool, movement towards 90% of electronic document exchange in the public administration sector as well as societal education about ICT from the young age, etc.
